Fasting Through the Lens of GHK

Why look at fasting differently?
In conventional discussions, fasting is often presented as a nutritional or lifestyle practice. Within the GHK framework, however, changes in appetite, digestion, sleep, weight and energy are considered in relation to the biological program that may be active.
The purpose of this article is to understand the terminology and internal logic of that framework, particularly the distinction between a conflict-active phase and the repair phase.
1. Weight Loss & the Conflict-Active Phase
In Hamer’s description of the biological programs, the conflict-active phase is associated with sympathetic nervous-system dominance. Depending on the tissue and biological program involved, this phase may be accompanied by reduced sleep, reduced digestion and changes in appetite.
The GHK observation
Hamer strongly opposed deliberate weight-loss cures in the context of an active biological program, describing such dieting as counterproductive to the body’s available energy.
From this perspective, the important question is not simply “How many calories should I remove?” but rather “What biological state is the organism currently experiencing?”
2. The “Starvation” or Morsel-Related Conflict
Within GHK terminology, experiences involving perceived lack of food, nourishment or resources are discussed in connection with biological programs involving the liver.
Food / Morsel
A perceived inability to obtain or retain something essential for survival is described as a biological theme in the GHK framework.
Brainstem / Pons
Hamer’s mapping associates particular endodermal biological programs with specific brain relay areas, including the brainstem.
Liver
Liver parenchyma is discussed in Hamer’s system in relation to an inability to obtain or digest an essential “morsel.”
The word “morsel” is used in Hamer’s terminology in a broad biological sense and is not necessarily limited to literal food.
3. What Happens Around Conflictolysis?
A central feature of Hamer’s model is the two-phase pattern: a conflict-active phase followed, when the conflict is considered resolved, by a healing or repair phase.

Rest β’ appetite β’ repair
In the repair phase, Hamer describes increased parasympathetic activity, greater need for rest, increased appetite and a shift toward rebuilding. This is why the GHK framework places emphasis on adequate nourishment during the repair phase rather than continuing aggressive restriction.
4. The Epileptoid Crisis & the “Low Point”
Hamer describes an epileptic or epileptoid crisis as a temporary event occurring around the middle of the repair phase. Its exact expression depends, in his model, on the biological program involved.
Why this matters in the GHK model
The crisis is presented as a temporary sympathetic reactivation during the healing phase. In Hamer’s descriptions of liver, gallbladder and pancreatic programs, changes in blood sugar and energy are discussed as part of the biological process.
This is one reason the GHK framework treats the body’s energy requirements as important during the repair phase and does not describe prolonged deprivation as a universal solution.
5. Why Appetite May Return Strongly
As the organism moves into the repair phase, the GHK model associates vagotonia with increased appetite, deeper sleep and a stronger drive toward nourishment.
The “full nourishment” principle
In Hamer’s framework, increased appetite during repair is not automatically interpreted as a failure of discipline. It can be understood within the model as part of the body’s rebuilding phase.
Therefore, the GHK approach distinguishes between restricting food because of a weight-loss goal and observing the body’s changing biological state.

The GHK Takeaway
Within Hamer’s framework, fasting and weight change are not viewed in isolation. Appetite, sleep, digestion, energy and weight are considered together with the biological phase and the perceived conflict associated with a program.
The key learning question becomes: What biological state is the body expressing, and what changed before the symptom or appetite change appeared?
